Shine Bright

You are worth… far more than rubies!

“Wherever you go, let your light shine. You never know who is walking through darkness and how an encounter with your light can transform.” #rootedwomen

Matthew 5:14 –

Stop seeing yourself in a lesser light! You are made with great intent. You are a Child of God, a royal priesthood. This week, don’t dim your light for anyone. Shine bright

What is self-controls?

“Self discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do.“

By His Spirit

Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, says the Lord of hosts                            – Zechariah 4:6

It is only through the Holy Spirit living within us, that we can truly become successful in life.

In our own strength, we are weak,  we become weary,  frustrated and tired. When we try to do things in our own strength we are constantly searching for strength, comfort and relaxation in other things that are not pleasing to God and a distraction, keeping us from His purpose for our lives. But when we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us and to lead us to the will of God, it gives us contentment and a deep joy in our life and for whatever we are to do.

Through the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, we can do anything, that is approved by God.To experience true joy in life,  we need to become empty vessels for God’s use and for His glory. But even becoming an empty vessel, requires the strength of God.

Letting go of all the things that defile our heart can be difficult without the help of the Holy Spirit. In our flesh, we enjoy the things that hold us back from experiencing the true joy and fulfilment through  Jesus Christ.

How can you become an empty vessel for God?

  • Ask God to reveal to you the deep fleshly desires that are defiling your heart and mind, clean your temple by repenting and letting go of hate, pride, jealousy, pornography, lust and even self-hatred the list is endless.
  • After letting go of your deep fleshly desires, ask God to remove the hindrances in your life,  that is keeping you from knowing Him wholeheartedly.
  • Ask God to use you and to fill you with his Holy Spirit. To anoint you to be a vessel and an instrument in His hands, to honour and glorify his holy name.

Know that God will use you and I pray that you draw near to God by reading His word. It is primarily through reading His word, when you truly get to know Him and when He reveals to you His purposes for your life.

Be willing to trust the Holy Spirit and to die to yourself.Sacrifice your comfortable state of being and become an instrument of God’s purpose for your life by striving to have a mind like Christ and he will certainly reward you.

Matthew 10:39 Says  – “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”

Why should we fear God?

For a long time, I have found this concept very confusing, mainly because all knew was that God is gracious and He is love.My knowledge and vision of the God the father were very narrow, in my mind I believed that I knew God but really all I knew was, that his grace is sufficient and everything else about him didn’t matter. Indeed His grace is sufficient and his gift to me is eternal life. R: 1 John 4:8, Romans 6:23.

So why then should we fear God?

The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Ps 111:10)

  • God is all knowing
  • God is sovereign
  • God is powerful
  • God is holy
  • God is the righteous judge

R: Proverbs 9:10, 1 John 3:19:20 ,1 Peter 1:5:16, Acts 17:30:31

When we became aware of  God’s superiority, his power and his holiness. We will begin to obey the commandments of the Lord and come to him in reverence and fear, knowing that we are nothing, that he knows our thoughts, our hearts and He is the one God who gives and who takes away.Nothing absolutely nothing can escape from His presence.

How is it possible to wallow in my sin without repentance, to believe that I am capable of doing my daily deeds without any help from above. What if God decides to end my life today? What if all I am doing is in vain? To please me and not God.To seek approval from others instead of God.

God is gracious and He forgives but He is also a God of anger and deserves our complete surrender.Trusting in His faithfulness and living a thankful life for the glory of God, may His favour and blessings always be with you.

Through hardships I will produce a righteous harvest👑

Dear Daughter/Son

Do not dispise my discipline and my rebuke. I love you and all that I allow is for your  protection and for your good (Proverbs 3:11-12).I allow hardships to come, not because I find pleasure in the sight of seeing you struggle , but because I know what the struggle will birth in you! You are my child and through  my discipline you will know that you are no orphan to me , but that I am your Father (Hebrews 12:6-7). Trust  me and hope in my faithfulness.

In this life you may encounter all kinds of trials to prove your  faith and just as gold is refined through the fire , to perish all that which is not pure gold , so Am I refining  you , to bring praise and glory to My name , to perish all the folly in your heart (1 Peter 6-7).

Today let go of all the folly in your heart and allow my discipline to drive it away and transform your heart in obedience to Me (Proverbs 22:15).

Happy Tuesday to you !

Don’t Dig Up In Doubt, What’s Planted in Faith🌱

Hebrew 11:1

Throughout the bible, there are many examples on faith. Many people either recieved healing, forgiveness or peace because of their faith or that they fell short because of their little faith.

In Mark 5:2534, we read about the woman , who had a bleeding illness. She had immense faith, that if  she could only touch the hem  of Jesus’ cloke that ,she would  be healed. Indeed she was and if you know the story, Jesus went searching for the woman through the crowd, as he realised that power had left him. The woman then fearly fell before Jesus  and he said to her :”Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

There are many more parables and encounters throughout the bible that Reaffirms the justice of having faith.

In Matthew 8:26 , when Jesus and his disciples were in the boat, the waves and winds were so strong, that the disciples became fearful, they woke Jesus and He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.”

As I refer to the above bible verse, Jesus says to the disciples that they have little faith! They are in the boat with the Messiah,  yet they are fearful. How many times  in our own lives are we faced with storms and trials, then shy away from it. We become like the disciples in the boat, afraid and of little faith.Yet, as believers we should trust in the Lord.

In Matthew 17:20 , Jesus says that if we have faith like a mustard seed, we will be able to move mountains and “nothing will be impossible for you”

In my life, there have been little winds and hefty storms, each one had a different  challenge and required various levels of faith to overcome. In 2014 I experienced so many challenges regarding my future , unanswered questions such as , where to study, funding my studies, will my marks be good enough etc. I really didn’t do as well as I expect in grade 12 , so my chances for following my dreams, became rather slim. These questions boggled my mind and I worried almost all the time. I had so much fear of making the wrong choices and waisting my time. Until I decided to trust the Lord with my future, to pray about the future  and to take the leap of faith.

Until this day , God has been guiding me and directing my steps and with the help of good counsel of family and friends, I managed to discover the path I needed to follow. I can truly say that by the small amounts of faith that I  planted, God has truly been faithful and his love for me has been overwelming.

I want to emphasise though that God wants to bless us with our needs and wants, he wants you to ask in faith and hold on to the hope that is found in him. But more importantly he wants us  to receive salvation through faith and believing in him. Many times we desire material things, that are not as important as our souls, so…seek first the kingdom of God and he will equip you for each task given to you. Saturate yourself with His word and as you grow in truth, you’ll  see your faith grow day by day. Lastly ,never doubt the Power of prayer and the working of the Holy Spirit.

James 1:6“But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of thesea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

In the world we living in today, we are challenged to live a doubt- free life. People betray us, things don’t go our way and that is exactly why we doubt. However, Jesus is truth and we can depend on him. If what you ask for  is in his plan , he will most definitely grant your petitions.

Dear Jesus

I thank you for giving me the hope to trust in you. If I lack in faith,  strengthen me and help me to trust you completely. Jesus , you know my heart , you know my troubles and you know me, even more than I know myself. As I trust you for. ……… I believe and place this at your feet with faith.

Let your will be done in my life.

Simply  means : Obeying or doing  what what was instructed.

I am sure we are all fimilair with the term obedience and I am sure that you have been disobedient during your life time.

As children of God,obedience  is one of the most important, yet difficult  things in this life.It is ultimately  God’s  will for us to be obedient to  Him and follow his commandments as well as His word. Our obedience to God evidently is our gift to Him. Which he rewards with blessings and peace. Although we can not repay or earn his love, because it is only through his grace that we receive from him.

During my quiet time this evening, I asked God to give me insight on this topic  and the Holy Spirit  led me to Dueteronomy 28 and 29,  where God expressed His blessing as well as His wrath (Curses) for those who do not obey His commandments.

I would  love to add the entire scripture in this blog  post, but I  also  want to encourage you  to read it yourself, so that it you may read and understand  what is written.

Dueteronomy 28:1-2 “If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.”

The entire  scripture  is filled with amazing heartwarming blessings  that every believer would want to receive. In a nutshell,  the reading expresses  that God will seek  the obiendent and let all his blessing fall apon  them. (definintely read the blessings)You are bound to prosper in the hands of God and as a child of obedience to  your heavenly father.

After a heart warming  session of God’s blessings,  things got real!

Deuteronomy 28:15 “But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you. “(MUST READ)

The scriptures  that follow made my heart beat faster, and I thank God for allowing me to read further than just His blessings. I  feel that as a child of God , I love hearing the good things God has for me, and I  tend  to avoid reading of His wrath. This scripture  is evident that God does not like it when we disobey His commandments. It basically  says the opposite  of having His blessing and that, He will really just scatter and give us up to our enemies… really scary !

Wow, I had no feeling  after reading that! The warn feels  disappeared like vapour, and I realised  that God is the greatest and not to be mocked in any way.

I  wondered…. what happens  to me now? Because  clearly God knew I would not be obiendent as I am just human. Does this mean,  we fall sort of God’s blessing? And there is no hope for our lives ?

One word: NO!

I continued  my readings and in Deuteronomy 29  it explains  the “renewal  of the covenant ” and then I  cried out….:”HOPE” and in this passage , God calls us back, doesn’t he always!

It assures us that God is merciful, that even in our disobedience, he will  forgive us ,if we turn from our old ways and live a holy life, which is in obedience  to Him. It also adds that  whatever  God had said in His curses  will be discarded and that He will restore us to greatness  and that His blessing will seek us again.

I hope that this  post encouraged you to live a holier  life and to strive for obedience as a child of God.Because, God loves you dearly and even in your disobedience He keeps seeking you. I want to  encourage you to  never  stop striving, because in this world  there are so many temptations and we fall for the schemes of this world.

             GOD IS THE GREATEST!

Ask Jesus  to help you to identify  your areas of disobedience and ask him to show you how  to improve  and to a more abundant  life.

The blessings of God fall upon  you!

Table Mountain , 25Km and 9hours

On  September 24th, known as Heritage/braai-day to South Africans. The general population celebrates this public holiday by making a fire and enjoying delicious Braai meat as well as engaging in various cultural and traditional entertainment activities.
As for me I found  myself covered and surrounded by the beauty of nature . Here in the  mother city the heart of Cape Town and on one of the seven wonders of the world, Table Mountain.

Myself and Jodi taking the hills!

Each year we as a church community dedicate 25km as a pilgrimage and as a sign of love/gift to God. We travel from  shrine to shrine which is 25Km apart.  This is considered to be a hike….. which is literally the entire Table mountain .

My previous experience of the shrine to shrine:
It’s difficult being patient or even having a sense of endurance when you do not know where you are heading. My very first experience was a tormenting and  frustrating one . My entire body was affected.  I had blisters for days with stiff muscles and a painful body. I could Bearley walk or even move afterwards.  The feeling was very exhausting.
It was this feeling that moved me to improve and develop my fitness level!  I made sure that I was committed and consistent with my training…. I attend various physical activities and I am glad to say that I am 8 Kg lighter!

This year I had plenty of energy and treasured every step I took . My heart was beating faster and the sun heated up as the day continued.  The hills were high  , the rocks were unstable and the thar was as hot as hell. Surprisingly I was not complaining instead I was captivated by the beauty of nature and humor of a friend , it was this that motivated and kept me from negative thoughts. Not only did I see it as a fitness challenge but as and opportunity to bond with my best friend and fellow parishioners .

If you are considering a staineous hike .
Here are some tips:
1. Do not over pack your bag.
2. Ensure that you have liquids, water is vital .
3. Protect yourself against the UV rays, sun screen and shades!
4. Think positive
5 . Have a optimistic friend.
6. Make sure you consume protein, it helps your body function properly as well as help repair your muscle.

Lessons in disguise:
1.You are capable if you believe you are.
2. Giving up is never a option.
3.The rewards are greater if you push harder.
4.You are stronger than you thought you were.

I would encourage you to challenge yourself and if you do find yourself in Cape Town,  I suggest you start or try out the various hiking trails such as Lions Head,  Devils Peak , slangkop and Kristen bosch . To find these locations you can make use of Google maps and GPRS systems.  These hiking trails are adventurous and filled with site seeing , it is approximately less than 4 hours each . They are safe but I would advise you to do it with a group and not individually.
